Have questions?
We’re glad you asked—let’s learn about Journey together!
Journey Co-op is a Christian-based homeschool co-op designed to support families by supplementing home education while fostering strong community, meaningful connections, and spiritual growth. We partner with parents to create a welcoming, engaging environment where students can learn, grow, and belong.
Journey meets twice a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays, from early September through mid-April, with a few scheduled breaks throughout the year.
Families may enroll in:
* Monday only
* Tuesday only
* Both Monday and Tuesday
Enrollment is full-day only; we do not offer à la carte class options. Full-day participation encourages deeper friendships, consistency, and a stronger sense of community.
*8:30 a.m. - Doors open, check-in begins.
* 8:45 a.m. – Chapel (15 minutes)
Chapel helps students begin the day with a grounded mind, grateful heart, and a focus on faith.
* 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. – Hourly classes
* 12:00 p.m. – Community-style lunch in the gym
* 12:45 p.m.–2:30 p.m. – Two additional classes
* 2:30 p.m. – Dismissal
Families choose from a mix of academic and elective classes, which may include:
* Science & STEM
* Arts & creativity
* Cooking
* Animals & nature
* Enrichment electives
Classes rotate yearly and are finalized in late winter/early spring. Typically, students have three class options per hour per age group, with most classes not exceeding 12 students, allowing for individualized attention and meaningful connections.

Classes are designed to be:
* Hands-on and engaging
* Approximately 75% activity-based and 25% discussion
Academic classes include weekly homework to reinforce learning at home. Many electives offer optional homework or extension activities for families who wish to explore topics further.
Classes are taught by a diverse group of experienced and passionate homeschool parents and community members. Each instructor brings unique expertise, creativity, and enthusiasm to their subject area, helping students explore a wide variety of topics while fostering a love of learning.
Teachers are carefully selected to support students academically, socially, and spiritually, ensuring a positive and engaging classroom experience.
Journey strives to meet students where they are in their learning journey. In addition to teachers, we have a support staff led by our behavior specialist, Jen Oliver, to assist students who may need extra support during the year.
Our goal is for every child to have a positive experience at Journey, and we intentionally create a welcoming, supportive environment where all students feel valued, safe, and encouraged to grow.
Parents are not required to participate or remain on campus during co-op days. Consistent, set staff in the building creates a stable and predictable environment for students, families, and staff.
That said, Journey values strong family and community partnerships. We have an active PTA and welcome parents, guardians, and community members who want to support events, community initiatives, and connections among families. Participation is voluntary and encouraged, not mandatory.
Kindergarten students must meet the following requirements:
* Be at least 4 years and 9 months old by July 1, 2026
* Be fully potty-trained and able to manage bathroom needs independently
* Be able and willing to communicate clearly with teachers
We provide support and transition time as students adjust to the classroom environment.
Journey serves Kindergarten through 12th grade.
* Kindergarten: Classes have 12 students or fewer and travel through the day together, providing consistency and routine.
* All other students: Typically grouped by age:
* 1st–3rd grade
* 4th–6th grade
* 7th–12th grade
Most classes do not exceed 12 students, allowing for individualized attention and meaningful connections. A handful of classes may combine age groups when appropriate.
We meet at a church in Byron Center, MI, set back from the road for safety. Some classes use outdoor spaces throughout the year to enhance experiential learning.
For the 2025–2026 school year:
* $1,150 per chosen day
* 28 weeks total
* $100 non refundable per child registration fee (due at enrollment)
Tuition covers your child’s full-day enrollment, access to classes, and chapel. Optional fees for special electives or field trips will be communicated in advance.
Please note: Tuition for the 2026–2027 school year may increase.
* Current families: 7:00 a.m. on February 25th
* New families: 7:00 a.m. on March 4th
For families who may have difficulty completing the enrollment process from home, we will offer in-person registration support. More details will be shared closer to the enrollment dates.
